Goodyear Welted Shoes |
||
Goodyear welting is a traditional method for the manufacture of mens shoes (such as Oxford shoes, formal shoes, office shoes, brogues and monk shoes), taking its name from the inventor who developed the original shoe hand sewing method. In the manufacture of goodyear welted shoes, the upper part of the mens shoe is shaped over the last and fixed by hand sewing a leather strip (the welt) to the inner and upper sole. In addition to the welt, a thread is also used to hold the material. The nature of the Goodyear welted shoe means the manufacturing process is longer than that of cheaper alternatives. Highly skilled and trained operatives are required - the end result is a mens shoe with a high degree of comfort, strength and durability.
